Stand Up for the Hooch Race & Festival

High Country Outfitters in conjunction with the Upper Chattahoochee River Keepers, the SUP Splash race series, the Surfrider Foundation, and the City of Sandy Springs, brings you the First Annual “Stand Up for the Hooch Race & Festival“.
The “Stand Up for the Hooch Race & Festival” will introduce world class competitors and beginners alike to the calm inviting waters of the Chattahoochee River. With a perfect viewing stage from Morgan Falls Overlook Park, the event will be a highlight for many families and friends. The race will include various divisions from a 6 mile course for elite paddlers to a 2 mile race for beginners, age classes for men, women, and children, and demo periods for non-racers throughout the day. There will be something for everyone to enjoy. The “Stand Up for the Hooch Race and Festival” is a World Paddle Association sanctioned race and part of the SUP Splash Race Series.

May 4th, 2012 – Pre-race Party -The “Stand Up For The Hooch” Pre-race party will be in conjunction with the “16th Annual River Revival”, a benefit for the Upper Chattahoochee Riverkeeper. This event is held at Park Tavern in Peidmont Park and will feature live music, silent and live auctions, beer from Sweetwater Brewery, and food from Park Tavern. Register racers can purchase tickets to the party for a discounted price of $40.
“Stand Up for the Hooch Race and Festival” will take place on May 5th, 2012
The race will be held at Morgan Falls Overlook Park
Race cost – $40.00 (includes Registration Packet and lunch)
Race categories include Men’s and Women’s Elite 6 mile for 12′ 6″, 14′ , and Unlimited boards. Men’s Women’s and Children’s 2 mile for, 12′ 6″ and 14′ boards.

404 stroke clinic given by Danny Ching and sponsored by Riviera Paddlesurf

The Carolina Cup is excited to announce on Sunday April 29th starting 11:30 AM till 2:00 PM at the Blockade Runner; 404′s Danny Ching will be conducting a stroke clinic sponsored by Riviera Paddlesurf. Danny is one of the worlds top paddle athletes and waterman. Danny will be conducting his clinic with on water instruction where each paddler will learn proper stroke technique. Video will be taken of each paddler’s stroke and after the on water session Danny will critique and make suggestions for what you will need to work on to make your stroke more efficient. The class is limited to 20 paddlers and the cost is $60.00. Yes that is correct 2 and 1/2 hours with one of the worlds top paddle athletes working with you on your stroke! Danny will be donating ALL PROCEEDS from this clinic to our charities.

Shark Bite Challenge and Paddlefest This Weekend!

April 14th & 15th at Honeymoon Island State Park in Dunedin, FL. Come experience 2-days of excellent paddling and competition at one of Florida’s most beautiful beaches.

The Shark Bite Challenge is a 2-day event that features outrigger canoe, SUP, paddleboard, surfski, kayak and canoe races and festivities. The event was founded 9 years ago as the “Caladesi Kayak Challenge”, in an effort to bring more people to the park to experience the exquisite paddling found at the State Parks. The event, renamed to the Shark Bite Challenge, has now grown to host 200 paddlers of all kinds. The challenge has featured a variety of weather and conditions, making it a favorite race among local Florida paddlers., and canoe races. This year, the event has added activities such as SUP tours and lessons, Sea Kayak clinics, outrigger canoe clinics, and a paddle fishing tournament.

The event is a fundraiser for the Friends of the Island Parks. Friends of the Island Parks is a CSO (Citizens Support Organization). Florida Park Service CSOs are volunteer organizations that sponsor events, raise funds, and support the goals of the parks. The Friends of the Island Parks CSO’s main focus is the support of Caladesi Island State Park and Honeymoon Island State Park. The Friends join the Egmont Key Alliance and Friends of Anclote Key in supporting our island parks.
